Introduction

The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) is approved by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) as the Skills Assessment Centre to conduct selected trade tests for the marine industry under the ITE Skills Evaluation Test Certificate (SETC) system. The ITE SETC system replaces the former Skills Evaluation Test System. The ITE SETC tests are administrated by ASMI’s Industry Testers approved by ITE. The tests are conducted at one of ASMI’s Approved Test Centres (ATC).

 

Certification Level

There are two levels of certification under ITE SETC system:

§         ITE Skills Evaluation Test Certificate Level 1 (ITE SETC Level 1)

§         ITE Skills Evaluation Test Certificate Level 2 (ITE SETC Level 2)

Foreign workers in the marine industry who passed the relevant tests can apply to the Ministry of Manpower to be placed on the lower levy scheme.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Application

§        Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident

§         Foreigner with valid Work Permit or Employment Pass

 

For ITE SETC Level 1 Test

§         At least 2 consecutive years of relevant working experience.

§         Have passed a Screening Test for ITE SETC Level 1, where applicable, as stipulated by ITE.

 

For ITE SETC Level 2 Test

§         Minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience and have passed the relevant ITE SETC Level 1, SET/SEC Level 1 or NTC-3 Practical Test, or

§         Holder of relevant ITE SETC Level 1, SET/SEC Level 1 or passed NTC-3 Practical Test and have subsequent 3 years’ relevant working experience, or

§         Minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience and have passed a Screening Test, where applicable, as stipulated by ITE.

§         For ITE SETC Level 2 Marine Mechanics test, the candidate must obtain a written statement from his employer certifying that he has successfully completed at least 75% of the tasks stipulated in the ITE SETC Level 2 Marine Mechanics on-the-job (OJT) tasks list.

Scope of Test

All tests are conducted in English.

 

ITE SETC Level 1

Practical Test

§         May incorporate theory questions (oral) where required depending on trade.

§         Duration of between 2 hours up to 8 hours depending on trade areas.

ITE SETC Level 2

Practical and Theory Tests

§         Both practical and theory tests must be completed in the same month. Assessement is based on the aggregate score of the practical and theory marks.

§         Candidate who is absent from either practical or theory test will be deemed to have failed the test.

§         Duration of between 6 hours up to 8 hours for practical tests depending on trade, and up to 3 hours for theory tests.

Important Note:
1.    Tests will start from 8:30 am. Candidates must report to the Test Centre at least 30 minutes before time of commencement of test.
2.     No candidate will be admitted into the Test Centre after a lapse of 30 minutes from time of commencement of test.
3.    For ITE SETC Level 2 - Theory Test will be held on a separate day from the Practical/Oral Test.
