 MARINE SCHOLARSHIPS (DIPLOMA LEVEL)

ASMI SCHOLARSHIP

 

The ASMI Scholarship is offered by participating ASMI members. These sponsors are typically shipyards and marine companies. The ASMI Scholarship is open to full-time students pursuing relevant engineering diploma programmes in Ngee Ann and Singapore Polytechnics.
 

1.   Eligibility

        §   Open to students from all nationalities pursuing the electrical, mechanical and marine 

          engineering courses in Singapore Polytechnic and the electrical and mechanical 

          engineering and marine offshore courses in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. 

§   Students in receipt of other scholarships with bond will not be eligible for the Scholarship.

 

2.   Scholarship Award

§ The value of the Scholarship is S$5,000 per annum.

§ The Scholarship comes with a one-year bond for each year of award. Recipient would

  be bonded to the sponsoring company for a period of between one to three years upon

  joining the company. Companies may vary the bond period and in such cases, the

  scholarship offered will be adjusted to correspond with the bond period.

§ All recipients will be required to sign a bond agreement with the sponsoring company and

  provide two sureties.

§ The surety must be Singaporean or Permanent Resident, and be a least 21 years of age.

  He/She must not have been declared a bankrupt by any court of law, and is gainfully

  employed with earnings of $1,500.00 or more per month.

 

3.   General Rules and Regulations

        § The Scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of sponsoring companies after the

         selection interview.

§ Academic excellence, financial need and good character of candidates will be considered in

  the selection process.

§ The Scholarship will be renewed each year until graduation only if the recipient maintains a

  high scholastic standard and good conduct.

§ The Scholarship may be withdrawn on the following grounds;

  -   Poor progress in studies,

  -   Poor conduct,

  -   Incorrect facts or information in the application; or

  -   Court prosecution for criminal offences.

§ The Scholarship may be awarded to a student in any year of study (e.g. 1st , 2nd or 3rd

    year of study).

 

 
4.   Submission Requirements

        § Application must be made in the prescribed ASMI Scholarship Application Form.

§ Applicant must submit copies of the following documents:

   -   Detailed results (transcripts) of all examinations taken in the Polytechnic,

   -   A copy of their GCE ‘O’ level results or equivalent,

   -   A copy of their GCE ‘A’ level results or equivalent (if applicable),

   -   Parent’s/Guardian’s latest IR8A form and other documentary proof of income of

 family members (i.e. pay slip or letter of certification from employer).

§ Failure to supply documents or information required, submission of false particulars

  or suppression of material facts will disqualify the applicant.

§ Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a selection interview.

 
5.   Penalty for Non-Compliance of Bond

        §  A Scholarship recipient who is unable to complete the course satisfactorily or if after

         graduation is unwilling to fulfil his/her bond obligations by serving his/her

         sponsoring Company, will be required to pay liquidatory damages to the Company.

§ Liquidatory damage will comprise quantum of award value already paid up by the

   sponsor to the recipient plus interest at the discretion of the company but not

   exceeding bank rates on study loan.

 ASMI MARINE & OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

 

The ASMI Marine & Offshore Technology Scholarship to students pursuing the Marine & Offshore Technology Diploma Course in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

 

1.      Eligibility

  • Open to all nationalities 
  • Good acedemicl results
  • Outstanding extra-curricular activities record

2.      Scholarship Award

  • Total of S$10,000 per year for 3 years
  • Tuition fee and all other compulsory fees.
  • Allowance of $7,200 annually ($600 per month).
  • Allowance of up to $1,500 for purchase of notebook computer. 

3.      Conditions of Award

  • Successful applicants will be required to work for sponsoring company for 3 years.
  • All recipients will be required to sign a bond agreement with sponsoring company and provide two sureties.
  • The surety must be a Singaporean or PR and be at least 21 years of age. He/She must not have been declared a bankrupt by any court of law, and is gainfully employed with earnings of $1,500.00 or more per month. 

4.      Further Scholarship

 Recipients can look forward to further scholarship funding for a relevant advanced diploma programme at a

 local polytechnic or a suitable engineering degree course at a local or overseas university.
